Vision
At Woodbank, English is a fundamental and integral part of the school curriculum and is taught both as a discreet subject and across the wider curriculum. In studying English, we want pupils to develop skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing that will enable them to express themselves creatively and imaginatively and to communicate with others effectively and independently. Little Wandle is used for the teaching of phonics and early reading. As children progress as readers, our reading scheme provides a broad range of texts from schemes such as Oxford Reading Tree. We also incorporate ‘real’ books into the scheme so children have access to books of interest to them.
