Science - Rocks and Fossils

This term, our Science topic is all about 'Rocks and Fossils'.

In this first lesson, we studied and identified differences between rocks and drew and labelled each to show their differences.

Then, we spent some time trying to identify rocks. We tested them in different ways. We tested how hard the rocks were, whether they would fizz when vinegar was poured on them, whether they would absorb water and whether they contained layers, crystals or none! All of these tests helped us to determine whether the rocks were igneous, metamorphic or sedimentary.

We also had a closer look at soil and found some interesting things! We learned that soil is actually made out of lots of different things. We even found out that millions of micro-organisms live in soil, we just can't see them! Fascinating!
