Meet Oscars new pet!

Shelley was gifted to Oscars as the child who previously owned her realised what a huge responsibility it was to look after a pet tortoise and gave to Mrs Howcroft in Oscars to care for her with the children. 

She is a Hermann tortoise who was 3 years old in November 2022. Her diet consists of foraged weeds within our grounds, salad leaves and pellets to ensure she gets her calcium. The children in Oscars all care for Shelley by bathing, feeding, caring and monitoring her vivarium to ensure she is living in the best conditions. We monitor her growth via her weight and length each month. A well cared for tortoise can live between 80-150 years! 

As the temperature warms up, Shelley will be accessing more of the outdoors to make sure she soaks up the sunrays as this helps her grow. Keep your eyes peeled for her when she's out and about!
